Out Walked A Cowman

My back story for the character Cowman from Armando Valenzuelas web comic www.atomiclaundromat.com

Carl Bovidaer,A brilliant geneticist on the quest to make the perfect cow. An accident causes one of the cow clones to grow as just a skin suit. But something was wrong, the skin was Alive. It’s brain had permeated every cell in it’s body.It had telepathic power and It desired more than to be locked away in a freezer, it wanted to be free to live life. But it needed a host, both to feed on their living energy and to move.

It used It’s power to call out to Carl, luring him in, telling him that if he would wear him he could make him feel unbound ecstasy by stimulating his brain. Carl quickly became addicted and obsessed with the suit. The company he worked for canceled his project when he failed to meet his deadline and they began to remove his research and clean out he lab. When they tried to take the suit he flew into a rage,Knocking over a large cabinet he crushed a member of the clean up crew.

As the crew called for security the suit began to talk to him “Now you’re a murderer, you’re going to jail for life. But I can help you,Put me on and I can help you escape.”

The crew tried to calm him down “Mr.Bovidaer it’s going to be all right,No one is going to hurt you it’s ok..”

“Just give me the suit!” Carl yelled, brandishing a cattle prod.He walked over and put on the suit.He backed out the door keeping the crew at bay with the prod.

“Now into the lab next door”The suit told him

“But I don’t have the code”Carl said

“I’ve been reading the other researchers minds, the code is 56827.They are working on a new self-contained Quad Laser system. You’re going to need it to get out of here alive.”

Carl entered to room and found the device.”It looks complicated” said Carl.

“I know how to use it,just put it in my udders, point at the wall and let me take care of the rest.” the suit said.

Carl stuffed the laser into the suit and within seconds the walls were blown to pieces and they were outside. the suit was overjoyed not only with its new-found freedom but also its new power.

“Oh..What am I going to do” Carl said”I can’t go home..I don’t have any money..”

“We can steal some” the suit whispered

“..Oh God! I just killed a man..I..I Can’t do this..I need to turn myself in..”

“NO! You had to do it ,they were trying to separate us,They were going to kill me.If you turn your self in they’ll destroy me and lock you away. What good will that do?Will it bring that man back to life?” the suit said

“No.” Carl replied

“But if you listen to me we can live like kings, and that will make me happy and if you keep me happy then I’ll keep you happy.” the suit said as he flooded Carls brain with all manner of feel good brain chemicals. “you wouldn’t want me to stop making you feel like this do you?

“No! Please don’t stop,I’ll do what ever you say.Where..Where should we go next?”

“Lets start with a trip to the bank…”

  1. Hey, thanks for the kind words over on Oceanverse. I just moved recently, so I was without service for about a week… That’s why I haven’t responded in so long. Man, life without internet access is downright painful…

Anywho, just thought you’d like to see this:

It’s a sketch I made for a friend of mine. As you can see, I’ve been working hard on the whole drawing thing lol. I’m not happy with her hand though… 😦 Hands are so difficult to draw, you have no idea… It’s EXCRUTIATING. It took me about an hour to get it to look even that good. >_<

My new year's resolution was to draw at least one picture a day for the whole year. So far, I've kept it, and I've managed to learn quite a bit… Though I've still got a long way to go. And thanks for the link to Mark Crilley, his videos have been tremendously useful.

BTW, I haven't forgotten your request to draw EC's sister. I just need to come up with a clear mental image of her… *Thinking*

So, a while ago you mentioned that your Ronin story was finally coming together. How's that working out?

    • * Hangs head in shame * It’s kinda stalled at the moment.I have been being such a slacker the last month.I didn’t write anything at all but now it’s time I (yet again )redouble my efforts and give it another go.

It just the same thing that always happens when I try to write something, I get a few paragraphs and then get stuck knowing what I want to say but not how to say it. Curse my inability to express thoughts *Shake fist* .

I should probably just start writing something every day even if it terrible. That method seems to have done great things for your drawing ability .( That drawing is seriously good)

I’ve been stalking around http://www.deviantart.com lately and that is better then a lot of stuff I’ve seen on there. If you haven’t yet you might want to think about making an account and posting your stuff. You could probably get some good advice to help you improve your skill.
(I’m Ohhaime on there too if you want to look me up)

      • I like the way you think! I actually already had a Deviantart account, I just never did anything with it, since I wasn’t drawing at the time. I went ahead and posted my artwork there… Click on my name to check it out. My name is HowlsInTheDistance. 😀 Also, I went ahead and added you as a friend. Hope you don’t mind.

So hey, don’t worry if your writing comes out terrible at first. You should see the first few drawings in my sketchbook lol. They weren’t even xkcd worthy… 😦 Just try writing something every day, no matter how it comes out. The brain is a muscle… The more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes. So just get those neurons firing! Like the old proverb goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

You know, you kinda remind me of my niece. She’s also an aspiring writer, and much like you, she’s constantly starting new projects, and putting old ones on indefinite hiatus. She spreads herself thin, and can never quite manage to finish… I’ll tell you the same thing I told her: he who chases two hares catches neither. (Yes, I like Confucius, so sue me lol.)

  2. Silly me! Of course you’d post the story here. I was wondering why you didn’t, then I thought to check my email and saw that you actually did. 😛 It’s perfect though. I can give you a more in-depth analysis here than I can back on AL.

Well like I said, I find it interesting. Dunno about you, but I’ve always found sympathetic villains like this interesting. It really reminds me of Venom though, what with the whole parasite/host relationship.

Overall I’d say it’s a good story. The only real flaw I can see is the part where he puts on the suit. It’s a bit hard to believe that he can somehow don a skin-tight suit, while holding a whole group of people at bay with nothing but a cattle prod. Maybe it’s just me, but that really seems like it’d be too awkward to work. Maybe if the suit just reached out and enveloped him on its own, but that would only make it even more like Venom.

Just wondering though: is this the end of the story, or do you plan to write more later on? Also, what of your other two stories? Evil Chef’s back story, and that Samurai story you were talking about… Have they fallen by the wayside?

    • I had trouble deciding whether or not this was too long to post on AL but in the end I decided to post it on both.I put it on here because It helps a bit to push of traffic to AL when I comment on other sites. Plus I can edit/expand it if I went to,I feel that the beginning is a bit Concise and might want to fill it out a little.

He did turn out rather Venom like but I think it also bares some similarity to The Ventriloquist from Batman. Because where Venom was born out of mutual hate,Cowman is more being used by the suit and the suits the one that’s really in charge(At least at first, I imagine they will eventually grow into more of a partnership relationship as Carl becomes more and more corrupt).

I would think he put down the cattle prod while he put on the suit.I doubt anyone would be too eager to approach a crazed man putting on a suit of cow skin.

It’s the end of the story for now, I can see writing more of Cowman later but nothing is planned for the immediate future.
My other stories are far from being on the wayside, they are always close at mind. The Ronin story is being worked on foremost because I am still stuck on how to move it forward so I have started thinking back and taking a good long look at the characters pasts.
The Evil Chef stories are both still in “Active Development”. It’s not really in my nature to completely give up on an idea, even stories that are effectively shelved(Of which I have many) are considered to simply be “On Hiatus”.

And as always thank you for your insight.
